Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire (February 27, 2010 - Toronto ON). Pointe Claire is a small community situated in the West Island, which is an island in Montreal. A lot of people who aren't aware of they mistakenly believe they are on the West Island extends westward from Montreal. However this is not the case. West Island includes everything westward from Montreal, including the town of Lachine. Amanda Brugel was born there although her time within the city was brief. Brugel had a childhood in Courtice near Oshawa, Ontario. She was determined to become an elite dancer, however due to an explosive growth spurt she outgrew all of her dancing friends. According to an article in the Toronto Star, she revealed that she was at 6'1 inches tall. When I outgrew my male companions, I stopped. In the case of Brugel it was the advice of the drama instructor at her high school, which prompted her to take up acting. Her teacher advised her to try out for roles in her school's production. A teacher suggested that she pursue a role in the school's annual show. This resulted in being awarded a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and earned the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2000. Over the past 20 years, Brugel's career has seen her in more than 60 films and television productions. The most well-known role was the one of Rita (shown beneath) in the television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel, the only Canadian for the Season 1 Cast of the show and was only seen on occasion, was the sole Canadian.
